Our Mission
Question:
Why do Charlie and I do what we do for the animals?
Answer:
That’s an easy one… Because it’s the right thing to do, not the easy thing but, indeed, it’s the RIGHT thing to do!
It’s actually a lot of work, and it never ends; nor does it ever take a vacation… but unquestionably, it is what God has Called us to do.
We are to care for all of God’s creatures great and small, and we take our job very seriously.
Charlie, nor I, could ever say “No” to an animal or a human being needing our help.
We would find a way, in some capacity, to make their life better and more fruitful.
We have been rescuing and caring for the animals that we find or that others have brought to us since 2014.
Our family has grown into a large, noisy, and very beautiful tribe of special souls. We can’t imagine a life without our family. Family is everything!
We have had the pleasure of caring for a wide array of animals here at The Shire…. including wild birds, opossums, turtles, fish, budgies, horses, goats, pigs, ducks, chickens, roosters, rabbits, dogs, and cats…and each other!
In the future we would love to set up international adoption for the animals we find.
Our goal is to Re home them into loving and caring families who can offer these gorgeous creatures a lifetime of love. Benefiting both parties involved!
In the meantime these fur friends, of the cat and dog nature, all live with us in our house. We really are a unique sanctuary in that way. For better or for worse until death do us part! Ohana means family and nobody gets left behind!

Colleen
Colleen is the Founder of The Shire. She dedicates her life to every animal that is in need of love, healing, and a forever home. She works endlessly for this mission.
Charlie
Charlie is the Co - Founder of The Shire and spends every day loving on each animal endlessly and has daily food duty! With so many animals, this is quite the process!
AaronXJesse
Aaron and his two beautiful girls Arwen (almost 1) and Shadow (14) are both Rescues; Shadow from the USA and Arwin is a rescue he found just down the road from The Shire… we love you all and thank you for all you do to help!
Shaney, Dante, & Chloe
Shaney and her son Dante (3) and Chloe (4) are Co-founders of the Shire Animal Sanctuary in Mexico. Stay tuned we have so much to share! Love Shaney Dante and Chloe
Our Volunteers
Ashton, Anna, Aaric, Timber, Buxton, & Emma
Ashton, Anna, Aaric (4), AND their three doggies spent a month in Mexico with visits to The Shire, spending time with the animals and some of the family there. They were able to see, first hand, the love and compassion The Shire family brings to these beautiful animals. Aaric was a huge help with the new puppies, including Darma and just couldn’t put her down! They dedicated time and love into the creation of this website to bring The Shire Animal Sanctuary to eyes and hearts around the Earth. The A’s are dedicated to continued advocacy for the sanctity of life and spreading truth far and wide.
Lyndee
Lyndee spent over a month at The Shire volunteering in any way she could help. When she saw the desperate need Mexico has, for raising awareness for the life of these beautiful creatures, she knew this was her calling. With a strong background in marketing, Lyndee is committed to assist with bringing the mission of The Shire Animal Sanctuary to as many open hearts as possible.
